Some History of Cookie Cutters
|
Early immigrants brought their ideas of hard gingerbreads and the shape of the outline of the cookie was introduced to America. As the English continued to roll the dough and cut out with a glass or tea cup, the German influence in early America brought the ideas of tin cookie cutters. Eventually new shapes were developed. Pennsylvania Dutch tinsmiths are still credited with these inventive shapes. After the Civil War you see the first manufactured cookie cutters in America. Industries were looking for peaceful economic ideas at this time and family get togetherness baking cookies fit the bill.
